Hello all FE enthusiasts in Ontario.
My name is Steve Reesor, an old FE enthusiast from the Metro Marine Modeler heydays when we ran at Lakefront Promenade and had a very loyal and vibrant club racing contingent. I used to race internationally and even dabbled in SAW events. I left the hobby 12 years ago, but returned during Covid for something to keep me busy while hibernating at home.
Life circumstances further prevented a full return to racing over this past year with my wife being ill and passing away recently.
So I have some boats built now and looking to get to a race to meet some old friends and rekindle the FE passion that I know still resides in the hearts of the FE gang here in Ontario. I know there are some very fast guys here in Ontario and bordering US States that may be reluctant to travel, reluctant in this current inflationary environment to travel to a race.
That being said - to rebuild the community - you gotta be willing to travel around to meet fellow FE nerds, they will reciprocate when you travel to them. Racing is not really that scary. The events are not really that intimidating. Everyone is there for one reason and one reason alone - to toss a boat in the water and see where you work product stacks up. Not only that - no better place to get advice and learn from fellow boaters.
This hobby is not cheap - we spend a lot of time and $$$ building our boats - why not expand where and when you can run them. Travel restrictions have been lifted, common sense and due diligence protects all of us now - so dust off what you got and enter a race for some old school/new school fun.
My expectations are simple: re-learn routines, get advice, see where I stand, but more importantly - MEET people. People regardless of the fuel type make these events worth every penny spent. Remember we aren't getting paid here for this - our reward is comradery and memories!
Hope some of you will reconsider this event and enter - plenty of time to get ready. Plenty of people to help you, pit for you.
Steve
