I see it all the time.

How does one define "non-trips".

The Non-Trip Chimes are the area behind the sponsons along the side of the rear section of the hull. Not sure exactly how to explain it. It's the side of the boat area behind the sponsons.

I found this:

Non-Trip Chine

A chine (on the sponson) that's angled so it won't "trip" on the water during a turn.

And this:

non-trip chine

a beveled edge on the inboard sponson

And also this: (Courtesy of rcboataholic.com, which I think is Paul Pacmeyer, if I'm not mistaken!):

Chine: The inclined side of hull or sponson. The non-tripping chine-called the "non-trip"-comes into play mainly in rough water. When a hydro takes a fast turn, it rides the chine.

Hope this helps!

Here are a couple more that maybe further define things:

http://www.rcunlimiteds.org/webpages/speci...hydroplane.html

NONTRIP - An inclined surface located behind the sponson that aides in turning. The term, sponson nontrip, refers to the inclined surfaces of the sponson between the sponson chine and recovery surfaces.

http://www.missthriftway.com/glossary.htm

Non-Trip Chine: chine angled or inclined so as not to catch or trip on the water when the boat is turning. Often called simply "chine" or "non-trip."
