I know IMPBA offers some charts for measuring speed... this should be additionally helpful.

Our clubs course is 330ft from bouy 6 to bouy 1, and I made this chart so I/we have something more accurate than the radar gun. All that is needed is a stopwatch and the measured 330 ft straight.

1 foot per second = 0.681818182 mph

Length Total Time Actual Speed

330' 2.0 sec = 112.5 Mph

330' 2.25 sec = 100 Mph

330' 2.5 sec = 90 Mph

330' 2.6 sec = 86.54 Mph

330' 2.7 sec = 83.33 Mph

330' 2.8 sec = 80.35 Mph

330' 2.9 sec = 77.58 Mph

330' 3.0 sec = 75 Mph

330' 3.1 sec = 72.58 Mph

330' 3.2 sec = 70.32 Mph

330' 3.3 sec = 68.18 Mph

330' 3.4 sec = 66.18 Mph

330' 3.5 sec = 64.29 Mph

330' 3.6 sec = 62.5 Mph

330' 3.7 sec = 60.81 Mph

330' 3.8 sec = 59.21 Mph

330' 3.9 sec = 57.69 Mph

330' 4.0 sec = 56.25 Mph

330' 4.1 sec = 54.88 Mph

330' 4.2 sec = 53.57 Mph

330' 4.3 sec = 52.32 Mph

330' 4.4 sec = 51.13 Mph

330' 4.5 sec = 50 Mph

330' 4.6 sec = 48.64 Mph

330' 4.7 sec = 47.87 Mph

330' 4.8 sec = 46.88 Mph

330' 4.9 sec = 45.92 Mph

330' 5.0 sec = 45 Mph

330' 5.5 sec = 40.90 Mph

330' 6.0 sec = 37.5 Mph

330' 6.5 sec = 34.62 Mph

330' 7.0 sec = 32.14 Mph

330' 8.0 sec = 28.13 Mph

330' 9.0 sec = 25 Mph

330' 10.0 sec = 22.5 Mph

Real easy math here for 330'. Use the constant of 225 and divide by the straightaway time.

4.0 second run - 225 divided by 4= 56.25mph average

Todd you chart looks real good except for the 2.00 and 1.00 , 2.00 = 112.500mph .

Just goto the rule book and look under section "L World Records" the chart is there and its down to 10th of a second. Only problem with timing your runs is the accuracy unless you got the traps setup. Example a 4 second run which is 56.250mph , a half a second error either way 3.50=64.285mph or 4.50=50mph. I will say a trap run is much better than a radar run, a trap run is the average speed for the distance traveled where a radar run is the max speed at any one given point. Sorry back to the accuracy thing i was just thinking dragstrip and reaction times, those reaction times would make a huge difference in speed calculations and you have two of them in our case, a start time and a finish time with the stop watch. But anyway good luck I hope to see your boat down in D4 sometime this year.

Paul

ohhh my .12 isnt the fastest but thru the traps it was 58.777mph in heat race trim, that was last year .

Daniels Racing.... I'm not a member there, but thanks!

Gooey! Thank you for the correction! I DO know about the IMPBA chart and have looked at it, but I just wanted a simple 1 page reference sheet for the pond when testing (and too much math - I'll 1) never remeber the magic # and 2) I SURE to forget my calculator for the division! ). And I was wondering how fast that "Cheese" of your was doing - was asking about it yesterday in fact! ;)

I intend to make the same simple chart for just the corners from bouy 1 to bouy 3 (assuming a perfect line -NEVER gonna happen), so I can tell what part of the course a change has had an effect on.

But ultimately, this paper work is just tool for decisionmaking (I cant see a 1-2 mph change)... my driving is my weakest point and what I need to focus most on (as Larry keeps bustin my chops on).

And thank you too Ray!

You have way to much time on your hands. The chart in the rule book is a simple reference... but then you would have to actually open up your rule book and read it! Something you should do before the first race so you understand the safety and the racing rules.
