Is it best to file the trailing edge of the prop only or can you take some away from the hub (hozzle) shaft section of the heavy side as well?

Jim,

Thin the blade uniformly if you can?

I grind them with 3M wheels.

Also trim them up on my lathe.

Excellent. Thank you Mark. As it stands right now I have one blade that always points down while sitting in the prop balancer. Lots of work to do. Thanks again Sir.

Jim,

Most likely that blade is longer. I use a lathe to even them up first,

Then thin them out, and then start on the balancer. The longer blade

will be heavier. Make sure you use exam. gloves and a great 3M respirator.

99% of the stock props present different size blades due to the casting process so to get them identical I use the small one to make a wax mold that can be applied to the larger blade to follow with the right correction.I do know that balancing props is a time consuming process but pays off to get a fast boat.Mark's advices are very important to avoid health issues.Gill

YES!!!! beryllium copper is VERY toxic. gloves & mask any time your create filings or dust. i'd recommend the same for any prop material, ss ain't real healthy, either.
