Most likely late 80's. One of them was the 2 piece case, I don't remember when those first came out.

We raced a lot in the 80's through '92, after 92 just sorta walked away. I worked every other weekend in my job, my kids were getting a little bit older and I didn't want to tie up my weekends off going boat racing. Went and did family stuff instead. No regrets on that at all.
