Terry,

Ron Byrd posted this over on the RC Boat.com board:

"An assualt on the current IMPBA Oval record for 3.5 Outboard Tunnel is being waged by Ron Drake and his Van's R&D/Race Craft Bearing & Hobby sponsored Lynx which is the current US-1 Champion. While the record did not fall today due to some windy conditions for most of the day, there were two very good runs made today but some minor mechanical difficulties spoiled both attempts.

The current 2 lap record is 25.895 which is an average of 12.9475 per lap. Ron was able to stop the clock at just over 11 seconds on lap one and then he was unable to hold a tight line and went fairly wide but still turned in a 26 second 2 lap average. The problem was corrected in the steering and another attempt made which produced another 11 second single lap and then the motor stalled. Both these attempts came late in the evening, the team packed up and headed for the hotel to ready themselves for tomarrow morning.

We are in hopes of getting the oval record and then we will proceed to try and set the SAW record."

Hi Guys,

We just arrived back from the Huntsville time trails. The weather was tough most of the weekend. The best two lap oval attempt from "Team Lynx" was 27.42 seconds( 1.5 seconds off).

This came on Saturday from Josh Fulton's (Precision Boats) Team Lynx tunnel. Josh and Ron both drove very well considering the conditions. Ron posted several quick laps that where at record speed,

but was troubled with second lap monsters!!! "They live out there at the time trails when running at these speeds". Both drivers ran well over 57 mph straight away times with there Lynx Tunnels. (These are the same tunnels we oval race with) We will give it another attempt real soon!!!!!!!!!!!!! Josh Fulton also set a record for "A" Tunnel straight away and oval. Go Team Lynx!!!!!!!!!!!! :D

I would like to thank John Equi & Bill Zuber for a super job!!!!!!!!!! Thanks Again....

Tim

Hi Don,

Thanks for posting the submitted list for me! All of the submitted were records for the class. The "A" , "C" O/B, B Sport Tunnel and SLS are proposed record classes. I accepted them to show activity and interest in the class. The Records Director would like to officially add most of these, but it must be discussed first.

Ron concentrated on oval running both days with only a few completed runs. His best recorded completed 2 lap oval was 26.123 sec with wide turns, and a single saw pass of 3.979 sec. His fastest ovals ended in dumping the boat, so no times were available. The boat was really fast, but requires the correct wind and water to complete the runs at the speeds he was going, it's a lot harder than it looks, maybe next time! Everything has to be right for a record run, needle, setup, wind, water, and most of all,.... driving. Wind and water messed things up this weekend.

We will be having another timed event on November 11, 12, 13, See you there!

John in Huntsville

Thanks, John.. I am guessing but a 3.9 second pass would be upper 50's?

The "A" tunnel is the one that interests me. How about some more details on that one.

John, you weren't kidding when you said stack! He snagged one of mine too!!(N-1 hydro)

This was posted by me in a thread titled "IMPBA Record Trials - Huntsville"

I recieved this info nearly as it happened by phone........While he never set any records he was very close in less than ideal conditions from what I heard. Hopefully things will work out for Valdosta but I doubt that we would be able to make Huntsville in November but you never know.

I made an assault on Tommy Lee's D tunnel record. My best pass was 3.03 seconds at 74.11 mph. I broke some more parts, including the boat, but my final setup will get the record if I can just get through the transition stage.

Nice numbers Bob and best of luck too you!

Just interested, but how do you get a single lap time using the IMPBA equipment? If you stop the timer then there is no way to restart for the second lap. The only way I see this happening is if somebody just went for a one lapper to see what was going on.
