Go over to Jim' boat dock, a guy sells the Voltron GPS/data logger. They are pretty accurate and will fit inside a pill bottle or connect to your receiver. Gives you speed info. Hobby king sells the Chinese knock off of this.

We've run the Eagle Tree on everything from gas hydros to full sized electric hydros. They have a learning curve, but are what you need when you are exploring new territory.
