Has anyone tried using these on marine engines, big blocks in particular?

These regulators are very popular with 3D and pattern aircraft. I use the Iron Bay regulator in my Saito 125 powered Showtime with brilliant results. My mixture remains constant whether I'm idling on a full tank or hovering with a few drops of fuel left.

I'm considering trying one out on a CMB 101rs but I'm somewhat skeptical because of the larger carb, since the regulator needs sufficient vacuum from the venturi to function.

From experience with pressure regulators on Walbro WYK carbs where the carb bore is enlarged, I would worry about enough vacuum to actuate the regulator. We played with pop off pressure and other variables and still can't get carbs to meter well over a wide range of load on high rpm gas engines.

Dave,

I'm not sure how to interpret your reply.

Lohring,

Thanks for sharing your experience. The Iron Bay regulator was originally developed for glow ducted fan engines, which makes me think it might just work with a marine engine.

Looks like I have some experimenting to do.
