That would actually be a Rear exhaust engine

i thought if the exhaust came out facing the front of the boat it was front exhaust and back of boat was rear exhaust

Don't feel bad, it confuses me too. Think of the engine as if it were mounted in an airplane and that's the official terminology for front and rear. We boaters stick em in backwards according to the Aero guys. lol
