.32 Mod Vegas New Radio Setup

Here's an update on my .32 mod Vegas. I went with no radio box, and used the Traxxas waterproof servos, and receiver box from a Rustler. Sealed the battery pack and mounted it forward and left. Setup works great. Very happy with it. The servos and radio box are mounted on a 1/8" ply plate which...

A little bit of both. I did it mainly for looks, but it also helps strengthen the hull.

I've tried a bigger prop, but it seems to bog the engine down. I raised the strut up to the point of cavitation as well. No water cooling at all? She gets pretty hot as is with the cooling. I was worried I might be running her too lean?

I used the O'Donnell 77T Turbo plug (and still do - 30% nitro). Check Tower Hobbies - they have great prices on them. I broke it in completely on the water, but have heard people breaking them in on the bench. I prefer to break them in under the conditions that they will be operating under; same...

Make sure you really take your time breaking it in. Keep her nice and rich at first. Slooooowly leaning it out. I probably went through about ten tanks of fuel with mine.

Yep, just took a dremel to the header and filed off just enough to get it to fit.

Thanks. I ran her over the weekend, still getting her leaned out to peak performance. I'm going to slowly start shortening the rudder as well. Another prop I would like to try is the M645 (basically an X645 will the tongues cut down). See if I can get a few more rpms.

Just racing for fun in our club. We run two RTR races, one for stock hydro, and one for mod hydro. No "official" racing. The only limit in our mod class is engine size - .32 max. Other than that, anything goes.

Just a little update. I upgraded the carb to a Super Tiger one for a .40 sized engine http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXFW08&P=ML Big carb, more air=more power.

    another crash

OUCH! I had a radio glitch near the beginning of the summer - was running a few laps, then it stopped responding to everything - 40mph into a steel boat hoist. Nothing left of the right sponson. I should have taken some pics. Time to go 2.4Ghz now.

I bought the version with the rotary carb, mainly because that's what I was familiar with. The flywheel is pretty close, but I was able to use a belt starter initially. I have removed my belt now and just use the pull start. Initially though, the belt helped alot. Now that its good and broken...

Not really any fab work. Motor drops right into the stock mounts. I used a Cooper .18 Quiet pipe (www.cooperpipes.com), but people also run a Macs 2.5 pipe. The Cooper is definitely very quiet, but a little pricey. If you run the Cooper pipe, the radio box needs to be moved over a little...

No problem...sometimes these threads can get thrown Way off course in a hurry. She's running good, but maybe airing out a little too much. She dances on the tips of those sponsons pretty good.

I don't have a GPS yet, and our club member with the radar gun wasn't there today, but hopefully next week we'll at least get a radar gun on her.

    My Dynamite .32 Vegas

So was I. The Dynamite .32 seems to have alot of torque. I believe the engine started out as an airplane engine, then was modified a little for marine use. I will be trying an ABC H4 (42.5 mm Diam 66mm Pitch) next. A smaller diameter, but more pitch. Or, de-tongue the X645.

Thanks - She handles great. I started off with the turn fin in the stock position, but soon discovered that it needed to be lowered since I did the sponson mod. We are still trying different props. M445, X645, ABC H4 and maybe an H5. The motor still has all the shims, and hasn't been modded at...
