Re:mikep"s paper towel finish
I like to use a old bed sheet and wipe the epoxy on with your finger tips inside one thickness of cloth. Keep wipping til its as thin as you can get it pulling it along the boat. A little goes a long way & sand 320 between coats just to get the fuzz off.

One more newbie question.. ??? ;D
My rigger will be painted inside & out. I dont want to have to drill out any holes after painting & "open" the paint job.
How much bigger do you drill the hole to allow for paint?
And..
I have many threaded holes also. 4-40 carb shield & cowl mounts. #8...
isitcuredyet.. ;D
I also used to only sand.
Mike: The tub & parts are all block sanded straight 320(no more waves) but in doing so, I uncovered a few more air bubbles.
I guess my question is if the wax & or curing byproducts effect the next coats adhiesion? & if soap & water mysteriously...
Iv heard that you should wash cured west systems epoxy with soap & water between coats. But I have some hollow sponsons which recieved water last time I did that (through a few pin holes) and took a week to dry out : :)
Would laquer thinner work just as well?
Its a epoxy hull..
Thanks
Mike
I fear I may have just ruined my rigger by using poly based filler. It wont dry after 24 hrs & says sandable in 20 minutes. ???
& solvents to remove it on epoxy is a bad idea.
WOW. Now that was a expensive learning process.
hind sight's 20/20
The putty I have is only workable for 3 min. Then it starts to flash & wont spread. Iv mixed 12 times and am not even 1/2 way done. I have allot of high spots now but to tacky to sand after the 20 minutes stated.
How do I make the working time longer or thin it?
