Now the sponson tops go on. I think this is one of the most difficult parts of the build. Even though the decks are notched & keyed to fit the matching slots in the tub sides the curve is a real pain in the you know what when it's 1/8" thick. In the directions they suggest soaking the deck sheeting in water to soften it up then tape in place to let it dry with a curve in it to make gluing easier. Well I did that & it still was a handful, perhaps I did not soak them enough. I also added some foam blocks as insurance in case a seam opens up from say a crash. I don't want the sponson becoming ballast to take her to Davey Jones' locker! Looking back I think if I were to build another one I might use the deck sheeting as templates to cut out 2 sheets of 1/16" ply for each side & do 2 layers. Or maybe I just didn't soak the decking long enough to get that curve dried all the way into it before gluing. Hmmm, have to give that some thought.....
