There is a small hole in the case and the rod has a spot on it, probably from when it smashed the object against the inside of the case.

i'm not sure about the pictures you saw of this engine befor you brought it but. there are vice grip/pliers marks on it is that from you or the saler. if i saw them when buying i would a seen a careless boater coming

The seller's pictures were not as close-up as mine. All the marks/damage came with the engine(s). I was hoping the seller was going to be honest about what he was selling.
