Spot cut and buff orange peel

Has anyone successfully sanded and polished out orange peel in clear coat in just a couple spots without having to sand and buff the hole boat?

Any tips or pitfalls to watch for besides watch the edges and decals? Did you use a buffer or do it by hand?

I usually wet sand:
800, 1000, 1500, 2000
And you are correct, watch your edges for burn through.
Then I use a small 90* air grinder with 3" velcro back up pad.
3" wool buff pad with 3M super duty rubbing compound.
Followed up with 3" foam waffle pad with 3M fines-it finishing compound
