Just saw on one of the airplane forums, Bob Violet has died. Met him a few times in the 70's when I was airplane racing in Florida. Truly an end to a prolific career in RC airplanes.
 
Sorry to hear this. I worked with Bob & Henry Nelson during the development days of his ducted fan unit. My .80 cu in size engine could turn his fan unit faster than the .95 cu in engine engine sold with the fan. Bob, RIP
 
I remember seeing Bob and Cliff Telford at the controline contests at Anacostia NAS just across the Potomac River from Washington, DC in the 1960's. He and Cliff flew many of the speed events. I believe Bob was in the Navy around this time and was a fighter pilot. Later, I believe he flew for Eastern Airlines as did Cliff. Bob certainly did a lot to advance model aviation with the ducted fan jets and the turbine powered jets. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family.
