Thanks for the input. I plan to build at least one set of sponsons with the factory foam. Not sure what I'll do about re-inforcing the boom tube mounts. Progress is still slow.

I did get an engine, and just finished making two pairs of mounts for them. Not much more effort to make a backup set.

After a long hiatus, I finally got back to working on the kit.

The quality of the kit is amazing.  By simply lining up the sides with the boom sleeves, sanding the cores to match the sides by the time I had the sponsons skinned they lined up perfectly.

I decided to put carbon tissue on the sides, I figure a little bit of stiffness doesn't hurt and it helps hold the resin in to seal the wood.

Would someone who has built the kit version be kind enough to measure the locations of the holes for the sponson holes on the tub? I'm after the length from the front of the tub, and hole center heights from the bottom of the tub. Also, what's the ride AOA now?

Thanks!

There is literally not a single part in common between the Zippkits 91/101 kit and the free plans. See photos.

The tub is taller 2.20" vs. 1 7/8" on the plan, tub is 7 1/8" longer, sponson booms are located further aft and further apart.  Sponsons are much larger.  Bulkheads are in completely different locations.

I'd say given the quality and precision of the kit and the modest price, I'm glad I went with the kit vs. making one from plans.

Using the top of the sponson as a reference. I.e. assuming the top rides parallel to the water, the AOA is 4 degrees

Put an edge in the turn fin IMG_3204.jpgIMG_3205.jpg

Looks good Paul can’t wait until summer how’s the hull coming?
Yes, I need to tackle the tub. I keep hemming and hawing on engine placement and angle to drill the holes for the mount. Building will be straight forward after that

That's perfect, thanks very much

I mocked up the tub, looks like the top of the sponsons angle at 1 degree, which puts the ride surfaces at an AOA of 3 degrees.

The one on the plans is still a great boat with anything from a 67 to a 90 it said for a 101 to add another 1' to the rear of the tub. They obviously did some more testing and found some improvements. I would like to see how much difference between the plan boat and 67-80 boat and the new 90-101

Finally put the tub on the jig/monthly_2019_03/IMG_3238.thumb.jpg.a3a26c86ce7f96d20d4caafbb470e84e.jpg/monthly_2019_03/IMG_3240.thumb.jpg.36278c569d4aadba8b77e1db1c7512b7.jpg/monthly_2019_03/IMG_3239.thumb.jpg.44a3c3a504a3e39373891a603a0d91c0.jpg

Added tri stock to the transom and engine bay for a bit of extra strength and negligible weight. Also moved the bulkhead between the fuel tank and engine bay aft to better fit my fuel tank

Out of the jig. One thing to note I’ll take a photo of later is the opening for the radio area and bait box in the top sheet doesn’t quite line up with the location of the radio area bulk heads

I think I’m going to add a foam block in the front of the foremost bulkhead. Bit more gluing surface for the ply.
