DEPUE Its time for the 27th annual 2011 American Power Boat Associations Pro Nationals on Lake DePue.

Today, Thursday, there is sanctioned testing from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. On Friday, there is sanctioned testing from 9 to 11:30 a.m., followed by Championship Boat Racing, beginning at noon. The first half includes the C racing hydroplane, 175 hydroplane, and OSY 400 hydroplane, followed in the second half by 125 runabout, K pro hydroplane, C service runabout and 500 hydroplane.

On Saturday, there is sanctioned testing from 10 to 11:40 a.m., again followed by racing at noon. The first half includes C service runabout, 250 runabout, and 350 hydroplane, followed in the second half by 175 runabout, C service runabout, 700 hydroplane and 500 runabout.

On Sunday, sanctioned testing runs from 11 a.m. to noon, with the boat races beginning at 12:30 p.m. The first half includes 1100 runabout and 125 hydroplane, followed by 250 hydro, 350 runabout, 1100 hydro, and 500 hydroplane. The awards ceremony will be held 30 minutes after Sundays final heat.

There is a $3 admission fee for the races. There will be beer gardens, a carnival, and much music.

Sounds like a weekend full of racing. If that isn't enough or you live out west, the Columbia Cup in Tri-Cities Washington "technically" starts tomorrow with qualifying for both the unlimited and unlimited light classes of hydroplanes. Throw in a weekend long airshow, R/C Unlimiteds and the gas scale Gold Cup races running concurrently within walking distance and it covers racing on both sides of the US map. To those attending either, unlike me, HAVE FUN AND POST PICTURES :D
 
This is a two hour drive from Chicago and IMO the best show on water. If these

don't make the hair on the back of your neck stand on end, there is something

wrong with you......the sight of a dozen 500cc Runabouts coming down the chute

and into the first turn side by side is something that will stay with you forever.
