    Jae 12 Weight

Yes, mine is a G2. Thanks for the info guys. Has anyone built one of these from fiberglas or carbon fiber? I work for a company which uses industrial lasers, and I have been working on getting a set of parts cut from fiberglas for my next JAE 12 build. My plan was to use much thinner...

    Jae 12 Weight

I dug around and could not find any solid info on this. How much should a JAE 12 weigh? Right now I am at 1140g without fuel. Is this good, or did I use WAY too much epoxy in my build or otherwise added too much weight along the way?

    Belt starting an engine

OK, I know it has been almost a year now, but I just don't have any spare cash for R/C boating, and it is too interesting to me to let it die as one of my hobbies. I bought a starter, and I am using the batteries from my JAE mini sprint to run it. I got a Grim Racer belt, and it does not fit...

    JAE Mini Sprint ESC Question

Right now I do notice when it declines in speed, but it will only go about 15ft more past this and cut off. It really does cut off quickly for me. If I am on the outside edge of a big oval, the boat is a long way from me when it dies.

    JAE Mini Sprint ESC Question

Does anyone know the difference between soft and hard cutoff on the Zippkits ESC for the Mini Sprint? Mine is set to hard, and when the voltage reaches that point the boat dies right then and there. I really hope I can get something going which will at least allow me to bring the boat back to...

    JAE Mini Sprint epic fail

You are spot on with this. Upon closer inspection the coupling fits the motor shaft very loose. At first I thought the motor had a bent shaft, but I removed the coupling, and ran the motor while holding on to it. I could feel very little vibration. Can you give me any more direction with the...

    JAE Mini Sprint epic fail

This boat does not have a strut which is separate. The stuffing tube extends out the back of the boat, and is reinforced with the ski of the boat. I think the transom is square, and I think the tube is aligned properly inside the boat. The issue is where it comes out of the boat, it was not...

    JAE Mini Sprint epic fail

I can't run my motor at any speed out of the water. Even the very lowest speed and the boat vibrates heavily, with the motor sounding like it will come apart. My stuffing tube is not too short, the coupler for the motor and flex shaft is not concentric. As it rotates, the flex shaft spins off...

    JAE Mini Sprint epic fail

A few weeks back I bought everything to get a mini sprint going. I had it done for this weekend and brought it with me on vacation to try out. What a blast! I am still blown away by how fast the boat is, and how sharp it can turn. All my neighbors got a kick out of seeing it, and a few were...

    Belt starting an engine

Thanks guys for all the help! The YouTube video is funny, it reminds me of me, other than I was using a pull starter. A week ago I pulled and pulled and pulled, and finally broke the pull starter right out of the engine. It never fired once. I was so frustrated I almost tossed the boat in...

    Belt starting an engine

The belts you guys are referring too, are they a bit wide? It looks like I have only a 1/8in wide slot in my flywheel.

    Belt starting an engine

Thanks! I will get in touch with Glenn about a belt. Our last sewing machine shop in town went out of business, (my wife informed me of that a few years back), so I won't have any luck heading down that path.

    Belt starting an engine

Does anyone know of a good video on how to start a boat with a belt and starter? It seems obvious enough, but I am having a hard time figuring out how a belt can have enough torque, when half the time I can't even turn my engine over with a pull start. Also, can a cordless drill be used...

    Variable Air Cooling

Yes I can. Any 90 degree rotation is possible. Other than looking odd it would function fine.

Can't get my engine running right

Although this is good advice, there is not a whole lot of water on my test bench for the boat to suck up, let alone through the boom tube holes. I did build a drain into the outside rear corner of the engine compartment. When the boat comes up on plane all the water dumps out. On the test...

    Variable Air Cooling

Well, it looks like I designed this thing all wrong then. I can't turn it around, as it would be in the way of the pull start. As is, it will warm the air so the engine won't run right, and with it directing airflow wrong, that too won't make the engine run right. Time to go back to the...

Can't get my engine running right

The aluminum foil only has to last until my replacement engine shows up in the mail. After that I plan to machine my own support shaft over the winter. I can then true up the existing bushing as well.

    Variable Air Cooling

Mike, I will give it a try first and see how it goes, but if anything seems fishy, it won't take much to recut these with no material near the carb.

    Variable Air Cooling

Mark, Thanks for the info. I have been somewhat paranoid I would burn this engine up due to lack of cooling. I feel a lot more confident about it now. I run it more on the rich side anyway. This is a sport .18 though, not a .12, but I think my results should be similar.

    Variable Air Cooling

Well, I did not make it round, as I wanted it to keep my pressure line to the pipe from going anywhere. The fins, and the high speed needle keep the pressure line pretty contained.
