I'm not traying to shoot anybody down I have merely asked the question what is the benefit of gear running and expressed my opinion. My opinion is not solely base on numbers but also on my own experience of similar gear drive from about 12 years ago. Project took months to complete, with high cost and a lot of research. End result was not what I was hopping for.
Our boats should not be compared to FSRV, each one would win hands down in its own type of racing. We in North America do not need boat turning 90 degrees on buoy and acelerating to full speed in 10 feet while carring a gallon of fuel. Our turning radius is big enough that well set up boat will not slow down too much and top speed will be reach very quickly.
No mater how little drag gear drive has it is still a drag and added rotational mass.
As I said before if it works I will be the first one to convert.
