Can someone tell me if it matters what side of the strut the rudder goes on if the turn fin is on the right side and what the difference would be in performance?

How do you guys attach the hatch to the hull? I've seen the o ring method but it would be a shame to use it on boats that look this nice. I would like a "cleaner" look.
