I stopped over 26 years ago, just put them down and walked away. Most people say that it is the best way. The money I saved has funded part of the hobby using 26 year old cigarette prices.
Most people either run the engine untill it's worn out or put it on Ebay & sell it to a person with little knowlege of motors. I would just run it & have fun.
If anyone remembers the Prather O.B. Tunnel boats with the turn fins you know that if you thought about making a left turn at speed they would roll over.
It might work for a real gentle turn turn @ low speed, but it will not be strong enough to work @ high speed unless it was very thick. Then it would create excessive drag slowing you down. .032 aluminum will bend because it is not strong enough. I use .032 spring stainless steel formed with a 20...
Tom, Think about the turn fin being a pivot point. Also what is going to happen to the tub when the water comes up from the turn fin esp if it has a hook.
If Tom Moorhouse is game to set up 5 bouy turns he is welcome to do them. We will bring this up at our next meeting. Half mill is something i would not want to happen. You & your pit person need to get together to coordinate your timing.
I use DOW CORNING 111 SILICON GREASE. I use it at work on steam valves, "O" rings, vacuum valves & sink drains. It is easly removed (you wipe it off) but doesn't wash off in normal use.
