    Long runs for fun?

If treated with due precautions, they are as safe as NiCd's. The problem was that when really new, people were operating them far beyond their rated capacities. The aeroplane accidents were due mainly to that, crash damage, cell imbalance and incorrect charging. Charge, discharge and monitor...

link go to the last page as its a long thread. The link is for the last page. Dooh

    Long runs for fun?

They're known to be more delicate charging and discharging than NiMH or NiCd cells so people tend to exercise more care. Overcharging is nigh on impossible at C/10 so overnigt charging isn't really a safety risk. Maybe current draw levels aren't as important in sport boating as out and out...

    Sad news

I'd like to add something as someone whose renewed interest in boats owed a lot to his web page and obvious enthusiasm. However, I can only echo the thoughts and tributes of those fortunate enough to have known him personally

    LiPoly for boats

There's a long and interesting thread on RC Groups: http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=229818 About a CD ROM LiPo powered micro hydro that shows where things might go in the future.

    lithium ion cells?

Those cells are probably only good for 3C max, i.e 6.6 amps. If you made up a pack of 4 with 2 series and 2 parrallel, you might be ok for a speed 400 application. There are now LiIons available (Kontronic and Saphos) in 1100 mAh capacity rated at 10 C.

    Endurance Racing

I think I was the first "guest", but definately not the knowledgeable one Mr Forester :o Apologies for my lack of netiquette, those cookie wotnots weren't working on the new board. Lou: There are continuous 10C rated LiPo's available. See www.tanicpacks.com or for bare cells only (need...

    The Electric Class Structure

:o :o :o I think there are some safety concerns to be overcome with LiPo's before we can think of making packs up of 10 in series and 4 or 5 in parallel to be able to deliver the current required. If it happens during a run, then there'll be plenty of water : :) but accidents seem to have...

    1/8 Scale Hydros - Electric

Maybe one day I'll get round to making a hydro but I'd personally like to see an event where, if it is scale, scale judging influences the result of the races, i.e. where the lower scale marks correspond to a distance handicap. A 30' boat at 1/8 is 45". How much are these things going to cost...

    Cheaper LiPo's

Check these out, prices single cells. http://www.unipros.com/battpacks/main.asp?...ession_id=49375 The thread discussing them at 10-15 C on E-Zone http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread....15&pagenumber=1 Still very new, but its good to see prices coming down :)

    LiPoy has arrived

Re:LiPoly has arrived Just seen on site mentioned above http://www.lightflightrc.com/ charger and mains adapter for 2s2p pack at about $30 total. Charge for 3 hours?

    LiPoy has arrived

I'm not sure I understand. The e-tech 1200 mAh are single cells and I have seen them on sale connected 2 and 3 in series and these connected with similar packs in parallel. For the flyers the weight advantage is very significant, especially when used with 400 type motors, brushed or brushless...

    building 'cheap' brushless motors

Ron, nearly everyone runs their motors water cooled. It looks like the design of the external rotor motors would make this complicated. Do you have any experience of water cooling these motors?
