Best way to find the bance point of the hull is to take a small piece of dowl and put in across the bottom and moving it forward or back till it balances on the dowl. Old race boat trick that I picked up from my father.

Well if you guys are worried about the rusting color or not being able to see the levels I would recommend you get one of the west systems pumps. My dad and I have built a lot of race boats using this pump. I have attached a picture from their site.
