I drill a hole in the side of the fitting on top of the rudder to reduce the flow.

It is like a relief dumping the water pressure before the water lines.

Why not just put a needle in line on the cooling system ?

builds pressure in the hose.

That and drilling the hole is easy.

Mark Sholund sells a neat little TEE Valve to control water flow. Check with "Shoboat" on here or Props 4 U on the web. I have them on my boats and they are a great accessory especially when breaking in engines and with extreme changes in water temperature at various race sites through the racing season.
