When I was buying nitro in 50 gallon drums, I would split it into 5 gallon containers so that I could use one container up before opening another. I kept the containers in a cool dry area where the sun would never reach it.
When you open a container, check the nitro color. Once it starts to turn green or blue, it is ruined and dangerous.
Keeping the 5 gallon containers in a cool, dry, and dark place, I could get over 3 years without any color change.
