I am curious as to what the scratch builders out there are using for the hardwood bow and nose blocks? Any special shaping techniques you are willing to share?

Thanks,

Rick

I normally take a piece of fir 2X4 and mark out the shape on the ends using a pattern and then break out either a hand held or bench top belt sander and go to work. After I get the shape the way I want it, I route out a recess for the bottom and deck to be epoxied into. Either this or Spoon's method will work for you ;)

Hey Rick,

Basswood is what I use. The one in the pic started as three layers of 1/4" epoxy together. Cut with band saw

and shaped with a #26 X-acto whittling blade, Stanley 21-295 surform file, and 30 and 60 grit sanding blocks. CHEERS !!! Bob
