Yes, rechecked them, props are Octura 1945 and Octura 1450. Chuck, what does "detoung" mean?

    JAE21G almost completed

I started building a .21 version of JAE hydro late last year. Building took months for obvious reasons, no hurry to go boating when the pond is frozen.. Anyways, it´s almost completed now. Just need to make a support (for starting, refueling etc.) and balance/sharpen/mod the props. I bought...

    Servos for JAE 12

For rudder: http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=8500 No problems with that one.. For throttle: http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=662 I´ll have to do something. Broke several of those last summer. Not sure what broke them (vibration?)

    slide carb

Here´s what I did to my JAE12G. Got that motor from LHS discount basket for 10€. They didn´t have rotary carbs there and if they had ordered one it would have cost something like 40€ so little building was made. Links are from Trex450 helicopter. Bellcrank is Futaba 4-way servo arm. Glued a...

    JAP/JAE .12G construction

I´m using: 8mm carbon tube (1mm wall thickness) for the tubes and K&S 11/32 sound brass stock no. 134 for support in sponsons and tub. Managed to brake the tubes only once so far, collision to track marker at full speed.. Cut the left sponson right off. Another collision was also full...

    JAP/JAE .12G construction

You have the lasercut kit? What do the instructions say about this subject? I built mine from plans & sheets of plywood. Saw a picture of similar setup somewhere so I did the same. Cheap and works fine for me :) Brass tube was glued to the sponson sides from the beginning, but tub holes were...

    JAP/JAE .12G construction

At first I just glued the carbon tube to the tub. Not a good idea, crashed my boat to track marker and broke both tubes on one side. Repaired it by gluing a brass tube to the tub too. Tube length is tub width + ~10mm on both sides. Same M2 + lock nut -solution there too - on both sides...

    JAP/JAE .12G construction

Here are my solutions.. M2 screw + lock nut through brass tube (glued to sponson and frame) and carbon tube (OD 8 / ID 6mm) DIY- turnfin. Bent version seems to work better than my first model. Keeps right sponson down at high speed turns. First version was a imitation of miss vegas fin that I...

Car engine to rigger & Prop rescue plans

Here´s how it goes now: (apologies for video quality. Quite a lot of compression before sending to youtube + those black edges came from somewhere..) I got quite many of those unsuccessful launches before getting the engine properly adjusted. The first good launch is with Graupner 40mm...

    Engine Temps

This isn´t an injection system, but maybe adaptable to boat engines too? http://www.trextuning.com/carbsmart.php

Car engine to rigger & Prop rescue plans

Just came home from another test session. Speed is.. :) Definately a lot faster than previous attempt (and faster than my friends .21 F1 outboard nitro boat :) ) Engine isn´t revving as high as I think it could. Mods since last test: * Cut more cooling fins off. Three of eigth remaining...

Car engine to rigger & Prop rescue plans

Ok, thanks. Don´t know how bad that composite muffler is, but I found one Mielke muffler (art. nr 2800P) from LHS discount basket. I also made a new strut so boat is ready to run again.

Car engine to rigger & Prop rescue plans

Ok, my scale is a POS. My friend has two calibrated scales in his office. 1048g without strut, prop, flex cable, prop shaft etc. So, approx 1085g total without fuel.

Car engine to rigger & Prop rescue plans

Hi, I found some info on prop mods: http://rcboat.com/prop.htm So I cut and grinded the bent portion off - Can´t be worse than what it was :) Motor now has three cooling fins remaining. If there´s need to cut more, a lathe is propably needed. Answers: 1. I don´t have very good scale, but...

Car engine to rigger & Prop rescue plans

Ok, I´ll see if I find a vendor who sells both pipes and props. Forgot to mention, originally the motor had 8 cooling fins. I cut three of those off after first test drive, and one more after second test. Should I cut even more or start planning some kind of water cooling system? Fuel is Byron...

Car engine to rigger & Prop rescue plans

I finally finished building the JAP.12G rigger. Yesterday was first test drive, and more today. It´s lacking speed! Propably due to new & not so powerful engine, no tuned pipe etc. What kind of modifications have you done to car engines for boat use? This engine is "HPI 1623 Nitro star 12R...

    JAP/JAE .12G construction

I made it. I have a small cnc-mill (also diy) so I can make some parts. Still need to make a turnfin.. Drive hardware will be Octura .130 flex cable, collet, strut etc. Ordered those few days ago. Should arrive sometime next week.

    JAP/JAE .12G construction

Rudder support isn´t even glued in that picture, just some double sided tape to hold it in place for taking the photos. I´ll glue it later and add triangle support like drawings say.
