Hey guys here is a new boat ready to run this spring. This was an 80% kit built by Andy and John Brown. Workmanship was outstanding as usual. The tub was built 5 inches wide to accommodate the RCMK S520 in line. Motor has a full race mod by Gizmo Motor with the heads replaced with Zenoahs. Tank is Walt Barney, rudder Speedmaster. I put a 5/16 flex shaft in at as I have been reading about 1/4 inchers snapping with the big props these boats pull. The shafts and collet are hard to get and I got them from Viper hulls in Australia. Rudder servo Hi Tech HS7980-TH, 643 oz-in torque with 7.4V receiver pack. Broke in the motor on the bench yesterday, it was amazingly smooth, very well balanced. This boat will be running in NAMBA district 1 this summer.

A good start at the pond this weekend but the Viper Hulls 5/16 shaft kept spinning in the collet. I am not sue they are designed well. any experience with them?

We setup a boat with 5/16" cable from Viper. Same issue. Collet was useless.

Had a custom collet made and the shaft itself failed at the brazed joint on first run.

A quality 1/4" cable is much stronger than the fine wire 5/16" cable.

This no edit thing is a bit ridiculous. You have to start a new post if you forget something to say. ???

You have almost no clearance between the strut/bushing and drivedog. These long fine strand cables need a bare minimum of a full 1/2" of clearance or it is going to pull it out of the collet and destroy the cable very quickly.

I have run the 1/4 inch cable in my twin inlines pulling as much as 8 inches of pitch at 108 mph and never broke a shaft. Broke servos, rudders, linkage, etc. But never a shaft. Got mine from Gizmo. Just saying.
