I am building a FF45 and am using Speedmaster hardware. I was wandering if it is ok to cut the rudder mounting in half in order to clear the strut mount. Tub is 4 1/8 inches wide but still not much room.

Thanks,

Bob

Bob,

I would cut the strut mounting angle bracket down before cutting the rudder bracket. You will need the 4 mounting screws to attach the bracket to the hull. There is alot force on the rudder due to the movement of the blade. Not a expert but have done thas without any problems.

I'm with Joe on this one, definitely all 4 on the rudder bracket. In most cases on a 45 one side of the L brackets for a 45 strut will be more than enough, just use a thick flat washer in place of the other strut bracket for clamping the strut blade. B)

On my Cajun Bullet 20, I trimed just a hair off the rudder bracket and just redrilled two holes. It worked fine for me, but you want four anchor points for sure. Just my 2 pennys.

I think I will take Don's advise and go with one side on the strut until I can get a u shaped piece to go between the strut and rudder machined.

Thanks for the replys,

Bob

Thats what I'm planning on doing very shortly with my FF45 - replacing the speedmaster rudder bracket and using a 1 piece U shaped rudder & strut bracket. I've got the tub built and have the rudder assembly and strut - just need the custom bracket!

I'd suggest two bolts for the strut blade to bracket on a 45 - especially of you are using Square drive. Less likely to move.

Tim.
