OK I am going to start a new thread on wire drives . Would be nice for those using them to give us some of their do's and do not's of wire drive installations and operation .
 
First thing I can think of is, if wire drives are the basically the same as the hard shafts that were used in the past, that the wire needs to be supported along it's length so that it can't "whip" inside the stuffing box. I've seen a stuffing box actually broken out of a hull due to that very thing. When it was reinstalled, the stuffing box was configured with a roller bearing on each end and a bushing in the middle, never had a problem after that
