Scratch building a whiplash dusted off the old plans and cut it out.Just put the wedge pieces on tonite two weeks in the build.Looks good but the non trip got a little carried away and got into some of the ply’s .Going to try and use a Sullivan 12 oz tank servo mounts in the radio box need to order the transom hardware motor mounts I use insane next is the stuffing tube.

I'm always envious of guys that cut and build boats from plans... working with wood is definitely is an art form and takes a lot of patience, time and skill.... much of which I lack when working with wood.
I come from the school of " I cut it three times and it's still too short"

Now metal? That's a different story ... give me some metal, torches and a welder or a lathe and mill and I'm in my groove!

Boat is looking good Roxy,, Nice and sharp!
 
you are too funny😄😄😄 Frank but ah sooo true...i learned that lesson a while back...learned to stick to my strengths... i enjoy scratch building...cant do a lick with metal.... but woodworks and i also got better with making molds and laminating cloths...last three years has been good with advancing the art form...for me at least

Russ Nachtweih took a newton plan and then re drew them to what he wanted. Nothing like it out there. Thing handles awesome. He let me make tracing on them years ago. Built a 1/6 scale/thunderboat out of them. I held the 2 lap record with that boat for a couple of years. Dam n thing was 54" long and took up too much space in garage. Sold it to my buddy Mark Anderson and he still runs it.

Twisted my good knee on ice yesterday took a day off was able to do a few things today got the stuffing box in and cowl mounts for twist and turn locks done waiting for rudder and strut to show up the turn fin mount is also done going to do the servo and linkage for throttle tomorrow

Got the servo for throttle and linkage done waiting for my push rod seal to come in finished the tank mount will replace the rubber band with o ring

Spent a hour trimming the cowl used extra large scissors and long board pilot drilled the cowl lock holes glued g10 tongue on the front installed the wood carb shield

I agree great job. But Frank, if you can do planes, you can do these.
I can do planes from kits....

The one and only scratch plan plane I built from a magazine article was so overweight that I had to double the engine size to get it to fly....and it flew like a brick!

I'm not real sure that plane was ever right from the beginning though....it was supposed to be a lazy flyer, flat bottom wing, huge control surfaces.... called for a
15 size - 4 stroke, but it had a huge wingspan...something like 50" ?
I tried a .30 4 stroke and it did ok, but not great...
I ended up with a .46 2 stroke on it I think... 😀
 
Finished the cowl cut outs offset the plug hole for plug wire .Routed the water lines and water exit fitting was short one 90 degree water fitting made a few on the lathe turned out ok Fabricated a exhaust mount this pipe and motor are for mock up I have another header with more off set kinda tight on cowl locks.

Went to the discount auto paint store bought some clear ureathane paint they recommended the gentec clear was 30 for a quart and 17 for medium hardener.Painted the cowl with some real old genielift blue was ureathane took for ever to dry so I tested the clear over the blue and did the center lids.Was pleased with how it flows and shine the cowl had some dust but the lids were nice.Sealed the hull twice needs final sanding then will clear it this weekend.
