What are people's thoughts on putting a picco 90 in a 40" Dumas scarab mono? Good idea, bad idea? Is it to much engine?

Excellent idea!…..boats are always more fun when seriously overpowered!

We ran a Hydrostream Vector Comp, 328 lb hull with Merc 2.4 6 carb ported to the moon. Sure, a death trap, especially on a hull rated for 145 hp, and this particular 2.4 dynoed at 297 pshp.....but when it was up on the prop running 110, it was pure bliss. However, blink once at the wrong time, well, they'll be fitting you up for a box.

With your Picco 90 idea, I'd put some well rounded thought into CG setup, and definitely rig as a surface drive rather than submerged.

We put a modded Picco 90 in a 42" Aeromarine Popeye's cat and it was a blast to run....and we 'only' used 40% nitro, and it was setup for right and left turns.

Best wishes, and good luck!

A guy in our club used to run the same set up with an OPS .90…in F hydro.. and won tons of races.. the rigger guys hated it ..

When he would come back to the dock after a race, he’d pick up his boat and walk thru the pits going … meow, meow, meow… 🤣🤣🤣

I’d try it. When I was around 14 years old I saw a 60 Youngblood with a Cmb 90 run and it was ballistic. Just keep the pitch down on the prop choices and shorten the pipe and turn some rpm. Should be fun. Jeff Lutz

Until it spun around and took off in some unknown direction…🤣🤣🤣🤣

Youngblood’s were famous for that… can’t tell you how many I had to dodge running the wrong direction coming down the back chute… 😮😮😮 lookout !!!! 👀
I was around Jim a lot myself back in the day. I saw many race well and never do anything stupid. Back then the hobby was plentiful and had a lot of jellybeans as well. No driving jellybeans as well as jellybeans that couldnt setup boats. But it was a great time.

It WAS a great time for model boating…

Gene and others..
SG and the New Iberia club always put on the best races in Louisiana…still have my pistol from the “Top Gun” race they put on.. 😁👍
