I ran across a deal on an older AC nitro cat with a couple of OPS .67 engines. One engine has a red head and the other in the boat has a blue head. They both have four head bolts and rear slide looking carbs.
Any idea when they were made and if you can still get parts for them? Were they any good?
I have not seen them and don't know anything about them other than the pictures the guy sent me.

Thanks for any info.

^^^ Yep.
The Red Head looks like a disc rotor 67/80, they built them from late 70's for ~25 years. They came after the Zimmerman intake 60's with the intake angled up towards the cylinder. Then the drum rotor blue head version. I preferred the earlier Zimmerman valve engines, they ran great with lots of low end torque which handled big props.

I have a couple of the Red Head 80's and will probably run them - ducted fan version with the needle bearing rod.

Gotnitro.com has been offline for a couple of weeks - hopefully they return.

Was that boat package advertised as having the engines professionally modified?.....

I saw an AC cat advertised for some time setup like yours. Seemed the guy was asking

quite a bit for it, and I thought the boat was red. The build quality did appear superb.

Be interesting to hear how she runs for you...keep us posted, please.

On the Red vs. Blue- I 'think' the blue head is a later drum rotor engine. Here's a link

to Mantua Model, on Facebook- they basically are OPS today in Italy and will have whatever

you need-

Ran many OPS .67's in the 80's... the needle bearing rod motors were really nice...

watch the rotor disk to crank pin depth and crank end play...they liked to chip the pin on the crank or the slot in the disk if things started getting loose. Setting the disk to housing clearance takes a little skill, getting it just to float on a film of oil.

There used to be plenty of aftermarket carbs made to fit the inlet, Even some other engine brands fit right in. One of the best that I remember was the OS max 9B and the K/B rotary carb. I never cared for the slide valve carbs that came with the motor.

Thanks guy's for the info. I haven't decided if I'm going to buy it yet. Its been around 15 or 20 years since my last nitro boat and I'm still trying to figure out if its worth it or not.
It is a nice looking AC boats nitro cat with the two engines, old Futaba FM radio, glow plugs, starter, battery, etc. for around $700 OBO. The guy who has it doesn't know too much about it and without seeing it in person its kinda hard to make a decision of its worth.
Its in Canada so I'm not sure what the shipping would be.
I've been thinking of getting another nitro boat to run out some of my 30% nitro heli fuel I have for my heli's.

I told him I'd look into it and see what I could find out about it from you guy's and at least see what it would be worth and any other info on it.

Owner passed away around 5years ago.
Used to buy my nitro RC bikes from them

Yeah, was aware of that, David.... I knew Dave Simpson fairly well, and did business with him.

Had talked to his daughter and her mom about buying the OPS inventory, but they dragged their

feet, and I think wanted to sell the whole business off.

Thanks!
