on my 90 boat i run 80% alcohol and 20% oil (80/20 syn/castor) oh, and 4 cap fulls of GONZO GRAPE.

And the residual haze of grape-smelling smoke once the heat is over is amazing and brings a whole new meaning to "when the smoke cleared"! :lol:

Add the blueberry scent that I was using last week had even more smoke & haze.

Robin,

We have ran oil as low as 6% with no real problems at all on the lubrication side

with 21,45,67,101,but I would recommend some Castor in with your fuel blend.

12% is just fine. We did see some bearing wear at only 6% however. If you are

running off the shelf fuel O'Donnell seems to work the BEST. If I don't blend my

own, I run O'Donnell 65% in my 21's with AWESOME RESULTS.

Don, I've got some of the grape scent. One racer loves the root beer and the cotton candy also smells great! Brian Cooper used to sell the additive in at least 8 scents and does no harm to the engines as it's an oil. It sure does make people wonder where that small is coming from!

Mark might remember when he brought samples to the Flint record trials and gave them out. He had some new ones that he was trying at the time but wasn't letting go of those.

Sorry, I don't think that he had one in Bacardi.........

Steve , I believe the answer might lie in Area of surfaces to be lubricated vs rotational time ( RPM )available that the lubricants have to be dispersed . My 2.5 280- HP Mercury motors will always get 32 : 1 Mix = 4 OZ Per gallon . If you get a mental pic of the insane speeds of model engines and port opening and closing , thrust loads on the rod , crank etc ....it's crazy . !!1

got to agree, tom. our "little" engines put stupid crazy demands on oil that full size ob's can't imagine. but i think better water jackets/temp control help a bunch on the full size ones, also . say hi to the suwanee river for me, man i miss that end of fl.

I am running Cooper 70% nitro fuel with 6% oil. I have been running this for about three years. I run it in all my engines (.12-.80) and have not had a lubrication related failure yet! All my outboard records were set with this fuel and I will be going for the 80mph outboard patch at the next record trial I attend. There are gasoline engines running on less than 1% oil in everyday use. One thing I try not to do is to lean the needle too much. If the engine is a little too rich,restrict the cooling or "pull down" the first two coils of the glowplug element.

if my math is right the gas guys are mostly running 10 ozs of synthetic oil per gallon which would work out to a tad less than 8%. I have been running 14% oil but I think I am gonna dial down... Tony J

Six %, wow! Any idea what he's using for oil? All synthetic?

tim, being from australia, i doubt you have met carl. well, i race with him here in d-12. that's a HORRIBLE mental image, you just can't imagine....... :lol: :lol: :lol: . i never knew that scent was for the boats, doesn't it make them slower, too ?

on my 21 motors i run the 60% o'donell with 18% oil.

i also run EVERYTHING on the rich side and all my motors have lasted for many years. (bearings excluded of course.)

when i was Flying F3A in competition overseas i ran 40% nitro 6% oil and the rest alcohol.
