Evening all,
Need some opinions from some of you that do paint work.
I always feel I charge too much for paint work, so figured I'd ask what some of you charge,,, or for that matter, what some of you have paid for paint jobs.
Project at hand.
1: boat is brand new 49" mono with a cowling, gel coat finish. So no body work or repairs to be made.
2: plans are to scuff sand entire boat, sharpen the stakes & Chinese
3: shoot single color, urethane single stage paint.
4: scuff sand again,
5: mask off & paint windshield.
6: spray clear urethane to seal everything
7: color sand, cut/buff/polish

Give me some numbers what you would charge or expect to pay.
Thanx in advance
Rick

well a lot depends on colors chosen, reds are expensive, followed by blues etc.are you using name brand paints( ppg, axalta, spies, standox) same with clears.i also take in consideration size of the hull,1 color or combo colors, boiled down, small boat in gelcoat,1 color i start at 175.00larger hulls, are definitely more money,i use only high dollar automotive paint products, simply because the shop i work for uses these products.plus, theuv protection is very good.

For me a lot would depend on the condition of the gelcoat. A lot of time can be spent prepping a hull for paint.
If basic paint without flake or pearls or something complicated I would expect to pay $375-500.
For more complex pearls/flakes/candy's I would expect to pay $500-$750.

These i just did for a friend $500 each

Rick,
I work on R/C cars mechanical and paint them I charge and average of $30.00 and hour + parts. I live in a resort area and get most of the younger
car people and if they come back for more parts or repair I give them a
break on the parts and materials.
The funny part of this I cannot get them to run boats even thou I live on a large lake, I have even let them run my mono and they seem to like it but no takers I even offered a 21 mono for free if they wanted to try it for a while, it seems like they have problems adjusting the engine, they just want to start it and run.
