With winter coming it's time to build something. I came across (free) this ol 20191016_080454.jpg d but in exellent conditions ops 67, and I'm thinking of building a jae 91 around it. Question for the forum: to accommodate the engine in its current mount I would have to widen the tub by 1", will this affect the ride? Will sponsons AOA have to change? Thinking wider tub might create extra lift.
Opinions and suggestions are welcome.
Ty, Vince

Ya, for sure... But seeing that I'm in Canada, between the exchange on the dollar and shipping, that mount would cost me over a 100 bucks!

But I appreciate your input

Cheers

I built a friend aJAE 90-101 boat that he runs a K 67 in and won the C Hydro class at the nat's, also a 5" wide tub with an OPS 90 power that went really well until it hits the cement block shore at Calgary. I have one that run an OPS 67 and 80 in that really goes. Just get some 1/4 ID. grommets to go through the hull and use 1/4 OD heavy wall aluminum tube with 8/32 bolt and plastic or aluminum spacers. I have built a few of them. I am in Edmonton
and you can call me at 780 437 0167 in morning before noon.

Thx Brad, sounds like you got a few speed demons in your stable. Very nice! I appreciate your suggestions, problem with this mount is that it's huge, intended for a v bottom boat. After dry fitting on plan sheet I see that the tub sides are also too shallow, so more modifications to design... Something jae/zippkits definitely do not recommend. Gotta do some more figgering out. Lol

Take the rubber bushings off and get some aluminum bar 1/4 X 1/2 and mount the bushings to it and drill the 1/4 for motor and that way it will be a lot narrower. Don't change the AOA. The tub sides will be ok for the mount on the sides or you could mount it to the bottom with the 1/8 ply on the floor, just remember to have clearance for the starter belt. Are you building the kit or from the Ne-stuff plan? Call me or send me your number as I also make a cowl for it. I would send some picbut having some computer problems

It isn't hard to build a mount out of UHMW

BTW, the Zippkits JAE 91 is significantly different in dimensions than the free plans. I summarized them in this thread https://www.intlwaters.com/threads/jae-91-kit.74491/page-2

I'm planning to use ne plans.

I would be happy to share what has been good about the boat and what has not been good and some changes I am currently doing after racing it at the Fall Nationals last week

I solved my engine mount situation, and I would like to thank all who chimed in... Special thanx to Brad whom suggested this route. Now the tub will only be wider by a negligible measure and tub depth is no longer an issue.

Is that the 67 - 84 kit? Sponsons look longer than the one that is on the drawing. What did you think of it? I have built a few off the plans powered by 67's to an OPS 90 that had a 5" tub and they all run well!

Wow, those are considerable differences... I totally agree with deeper hull, as a 1/4 servo would be a tight fit if using the 1 7/8 design, even with the shortest arm. Thx for sharing.

My jae 91 all epoxy sealed and ready for the first coat of primer.
