Lee,

Wash the plate with water
Clean the plate with denatured alcohol
apply the glue in a wind row fashion (the entire plate) wait for it to dry
re-apply glue (wind row) at 90 deg to the first (wait to dry)

Lots of variables here; Assuming you using PLA material and the printer has a heated bed:

I have good success using blue painters tape on the on the print bed also

I use Aqua net. Some times I clean like Grim described spay it with glass on cardboard the set it on the bed and dry with the bed heat if I am in a hurry. Otherwise I let it dry.
