Thought we'd start a, yet another, Con Rod thread...

Is there a market out there for an affordable aluminum alloy con rod, with roller big end option on big inch

engines, and a fixed quality bushing on smaller engines?....

What grade alloy?..... from my perspective, 7068-T6511 comes to mind.

I've found a local CNC shop that has top of the line machinery, and the owner/operator is an rc car buff.

I'm already in discussion with him regarding CNC'd pipes and spin formed pipes.

Here's a link to his site...check out his equipment- pretty impressive for this unreasonably wealthy town

of Traverse City, MI-

Thanks for any input-

I would think there would be a huge market for him if he could make RPM type rods for all of the old style "rod over crank pin" type motors.
Both bushing and needle big ends.

OPS, Picco, K&B, many other motors could benefit from the availability of a quality rod again.

Tim,

He was a friend of Mike‘s. I have been at his shop before.
Nice guy with an impressive shop. He has plenty of knowledge,
he just needs a big enough order to run the job. He would run
sleds with Mike. Maybe I will see you at Home Depot today?

Thanks,

Mark Sholund

Hi Mark-

Who you talking about?.... Ray @ Traverse City CNC?....

Needless to say, I was shocked when I found out about Mike. He and I had

something in the works. Come to find out, Mike and I knew each other back

around 1970, when TC was still relatively small. We played in bands around town.

I'm hoping to get out and see Ray this week- we've already talked on the phone.

I'm hoping one of his engine lathes has the swing to spin some pipes. That is the

best method to keep pipe cost down. CNC'd pipes would be in the same range, or

a bit beyond, than what Bouchie was selling his for.

Also, we're trying to eliminate all of those individual segments and circumferential

TIG paths Bouchie was doing.

Thanks-

tim
