Nova Rossi factory break in procedure.

Donna Brown raced an original version Novarossi 21 in the early 1980s. She won many races with it. The bypass and crank ports were very small. I opened up (dremeled) the ports and it ran faster and Donna continued winning races, including the Orlando Winter Nats. The engine was set up in very...

Nova Rossi factory break in procedure.

Terry, Think about it. A light weight hydro will launch and get on plane at half throttle or half power. Does it then begin going faster and faster at that same power level? Boats do not require 100% of the engine's power to get on plane. They struggle to get on plane because the engine is...

Nova Rossi factory break in procedure.

Hi Terry, Hope you are doing great! Dynamic drag increases with speed. Boats, airplanes, and Bonneville cars are the same in this respect. The faster they go, the more Horsepower they require. Road race type cars need max HP to accelerate mass out of corners. Once the major acceleration has...

"more rpm less torque or more torque, less rpm. Nova puts you at the midpoint of both," There is also the more RPM, more Torque approach. It equates to MORE HP. I prefer to use that program.

Nova Rossi factory break in procedure.

Yes, the engines are the same. BUT cars and boats need different power curves. 39,000 from a stock 21 on 20% nitro will push an On-road car to 70 mph. The same engine set up in a heat race rigger would never see 39,000 unless a small prop is used, but then the boat would not see 70 mph on that...

Yes the Dremal mod fixed a lot of problematic CMBs (and Piccos, Novas, others).

Rod Geraghty mentioned something about racing with low nitro. Jason Brown placed 4th at the Fall Nats in F Hydro on a mixture of ZERO % Nitro and 15% castor. His speed was competitive and he would have placed better if not for hitting a buoy in one heat.

    .90 in a 1/8 scale unlimited?

Jim, Looks like you are going a different direction from your original thought, but I will make one point that solves the problem of too much power by putting a .90 in a .67 boat. The Nova .91 does not change the weight and the power can be adjusted downward to be closer to the .67 by simply...

Greatest Of All Time Nitro Racer.

All of the Nitro racers mentioned and more certainly deserved to be recognized. And there are more. To name one absolute best is really impossible considering that racers all have different situations in their lives and their racing environment. That said, it's great to see the different names...

    CMB V5 45

Jim,  I see Nelson engines are still using double hemi heads. The Super Tigre X-40 Pylon engine (1973) used the double hemi.  Worked great in boats too. It was a popular after market part available for many engine brands through out the 70s and 80s.

Greatest Of All Time Nitro Racer.

I had the honor of watching Jim Whitlatch race his 60 Wing Ding at the 1978 NAMBA Nats.  Truley a great nitro boat racer! I learned something from Jim that I still use today.  Jim used wire to secure his pipe coupler.  It has worked for me for 40+  years. There are several Nitro racers from...

Greatest Of All Time Nitro Racer.

Many of the 'Best of the Best' racers have been named.  Not easy to pick just one. One point about the criteria to think about is the classes that racers mostly compete in.  Some are easier to dominate than others. I would have to also agree that Ernie LaFluer is the Top stand out in my mind. ...

Darren, I have not had my hands on the old OPS .65 but from photos I suspect the red 67 water jacket fits.

    CMDi & OPS engines

David I have tried several different pipes on the OPS 45 and most work well, There is one that stands out above the rest, but it a Frankenstien made from several other pipe parts. Soon my initial testing will be complete and I will report on what works best with the Stock and Modified OPS 45.
