    SpeedWeek 2023

Thanks for all your work Glen, it is very much appreciated. Also, thank you to all the people at the lake that I borrowed, bought, and stole from, to make my runs possible. I could not have done it without your help. Don Huff

That thing is eating up real-estate fast. I think you're going to need a bigger pond to go any faster!

Trueing up the bottom of a mono?

The only good way that I have found to get the bottom truly flat is to remove the strakes completely. That way I can use a long wide sanding block and bondo, and get the surfaces FLAT! Don't worry about replacing the strakes either, they serve no purpose on our models. I have removed the...

Cincinnati Model Boat Club 2021 IMPBA Time Trials

Mark Grim broke the P hydro 1/4 mile record, with his P-Limited boat. And got pretty close to getting the 1/3 mile. and BTW, the 14.xx that he went is the fastest 1/4 mile fast electric record ever.

    best solder

What about maybe tapping the solder hole and putting in a short #4 -#6 grub screw then solder? Mic Halbehder Mic, after I started rewinding and pulling twice the amps as I use to, I started melting connector solder constantly. We tried all sorts of mechanical connections including a 1" long...

    best solder

When I built my airplane, I too used a good crimping tool and solder to make my connections. But those connectors are made from either plated steel, or plated copper. Model brushless motor connectors are not made like this, but rather they are made of a bronze alloy that has something in it to...

Alloy metals always have a lower melting point than the pure metals that they are made from. In pure metals, the atoms are arranged in a very uniform manner, but in the alloy, this pattern is all messed up because of the different size and arrangement of the blended metals. Thus making the bond...

Here is what I have been using for connectors since I started rewinding. On most motors the rewinding does not increase the power, but rather it allows you to prop up some and not burn it up, which gets the motor closer to it's horsepower peak, which typically occurs at 50% of it's UNLOADED max...

    P Limited Hydro IMPBA.

Fred, Limited is dying? No new racers joining that class? Getting to expensive? The class going away at the end of this year? At last weekends fiasco, I delivered 2 new RTR limited mono boats to Deryl and JJ. And I have one in the shop building it for a man in Huntsville. And they DO NOT cost...

    F.E. motor timing

So Tyler, you do not follow Lehner's recommendations regarding timing ? Copied from the Lehner web site "Which motor timing value should I use? This depends on the load (small load - low timing / heavy load - high timing). A "compromise" clock value would be 10º - 15º. " I especially like the...

    P Limited Hydro IMPBA.

"The easiest current limiter to measure is propeller diameter. That encourages propeller development " SO, it's ok to do propeller development, but doing the same for the motor is somehow cheating????

    Class P-Limited?

Mic is right about that Leopard 3660, it is a good motor for limited when compared to the other options. And the reason is because it has a 32mm long rotor! The Neu 1412 is 1.2" which equals 30.5mm. The AQ is 30mm, the SSS 3656 is 30mm but it's rotor is almost a mm larger in diameter. The...

    FE motor question

Tyler, off subject a bit but, are they really AC current? Or is the esc just pulsing the DC and controlling the "ON time" of the pulse, and then switching the polarity of the next pulse. which in a way is like changing the hertz.

    FE motor question

I agree with the "blow it out" part, but I have taken apart a couple of hundred motors by now. And some of them have come into my shop dripping with corrosion X, easy to tell because they STINK! That oily stinky stuff does attack some of the rubber heat shrink that some motors use for...

    Brushless motor repair

OH, I thought that you were positive that it failed because of no cooling. Actually, on the I.D. of the stator hole where the rotor goes through. There was one strand of wire that had gotten out of the slot and gotten to the inside where the rotor could run against it. That will short one out...

    Brushless motor repair

Andy, I got your motor today and tore it apart. On the inside, it is surprising similar to a TP 4070. The stator plates and stator assembly are identical to the TP, it is practically a TP part. The rotor is only slightly different from the TP, with the wrapping being the biggest difference...
