    Blazer Lauterbach Build Thread

Yeah Frank I like working with wood or I wouldn’t go this route for sure. Building definitely requires patience, and whether you build from scratch, build from a kit, or build from a pre made fiberglass hull, its all cool. I’ve done all of it, but the wood boats are the most rewarding, My...

My 1st Build (SLR Missile Thunderboat ZippKit)

Everything looking good. I love the use of tabs to lock everything square with little effort. Great feature!

    Blazer Lauterbach Build Thread

Thanks Chuck. I’ve built a few wood boats and it is getting easier the more I do it. The laser cut kits have something to do with this, man, I just can’t express how much easier it is to build these nowadays. There are still “tricks of the trade” that you gain as you build a few of these...

Larger stringers on the top and bottom of the front of the boat installed. Up next will be the smaller 1/8 x 1/8 basswood stringers where the framing calls for it and anywhere else where more gluing area for the decks and bottom is needed.

A couple mock ups with the center deck pieces and the cowls set on. Transom has been trimmed. Front side extensions wrapped around the front. On to the sponsons. I used thick Ca and accelerator for this step. Everything going relatively smoothly. The next step will be starting to add...

My 1st Build (SLR Missile Thunderboat ZippKit)

Glad you got that sorted out. Hopefully someone who has built this kit can chime in on when you cut the tabs. I will say whatever you do, make sure you’ve sealed the inside, installed the turn fin t-nuts or hunk of Aluminum and anything else you need to do in there before the decks go on...

My 1st Build (SLR Missile Thunderboat ZippKit)

I made up about 30 of these last year before I put decks on my Backlash. They work so well I’m surprised no one has produced them commercially. At least I haven’t seen them but maybe they exist I don’t know. I sliced them up with my miter saw and wow did that make a mess but it was worth it.

Most importantly, join that local club and participate in club functions, races, fun runs, whatever…. If you want to travel and race, great, but that club is your home base and the members will have a wealth of knowledge for you. I’m often jealous of the rc boaters in the south because it is...

Finished up with the non trips and the sides. Just have to sand up the seam between the non trips and sides and trim and sand the overhang at the transom. Starting to resemble a vintage GP Lauterbach hull.

    First attempt at anodizing.

I thought about that too but I didn’t know if they’d get hot enough. But there’s another idea for you.

I need to finish this build!

    Love that motor mount!

Maybe look into an immersion heater. They have them on Amazon that people use to heat anything from buckets of water to inflatable pools.

    Blazer Lauterbach Build Thread

So after a few days of a car show and helping my daughter move, I’ve been able to get back to work and finish getting the front end of the frame in place and tacked with CA. It is now time to move further back and work on the non trips and sides of the hull. I tacked on the rear sheer battens...

Don’t cut it apart just yet. See if you can take a heat gun ( the one I use was like 10.00 at Harbor Freight) and heat up all those joints and use clamps to try to massage that piece into place. Like on the back part that’s sticking up 1/4 in. Get a clamp on there and get some moderate...

    .21 OS Max info needed

From what I can see the ex series was released in 1988 and the rx in 1992. Not much else I know. There’s a chart you can pull up if you Google OS Engines Timeline. I ran both the .46vr-m and the 65 vr-m in sport 40, scale, and e-hydro in the 90s. Those engines were developed in like 1980 but...

My 1st Build (SLR Missile Thunderboat ZippKit)

I assembled and painted one of his Allison kits over the summer. Use thick CA, have a razor knife on hand for scraping seams, and get some of that wallboard filler that’s pink and turns white when dry. He recommends wallboard filler to fill in the print lines. I used Rustoleum 2x primer and...

    Blazer Marine Slingshot Build!

Stellar looking and running boat. As soon as I get a little further along with the T-Boat I’ll be getting my own Slingshot started. I can’t imagine it won’t go incredibly well with your thread to refer to. And I will touch base on those points we talked about before moving forward with those...

My 1st Build (SLR Missile Thunderboat ZippKit)

First of all, you are right about the epoxy, you don’t want too much at this point. Enough to glue the joints and wipe away the excess before it cures. I like to tack up with some thick CA and accelerator. Squeeze some in the joint. Let it run in for a sec and then wipe. Then spray it and it...
