Parts For Sale K&B 7.5 Red Head & Gold Head

All the parts are assembled. I am selling 2 K&B 7.5 engines that belong to Frank Ward. Frank was the designer of the Dumas DragN'Fli hydroplanes and also manufactured Wardcraft Deep Vees. Frank retired 5 years ago, built a new house on Duck Lake in Ocean Shores, WA, purchased a lot of model...

    2021 NAMBA Nationals 50th Anniversary

Sent my entry in yesterday. I attended the first one. Wonder if anyone else who attended the first NAMBA Nats is planning to attend the 50th? Steve Muck is the only one I can think of, but there might be more. JD

    Zipp 30" tunnel update

I am building a G-30 for my O.S. 20. I decided to use the plastic cowling provided in the kit rather than make a cowling like I did for my P Limited G-30. In order to lower the profile of the cowling, I cut 1/2" from the front of the radio box. There's still plenty of room in the radio box...

    Zipp 30" tunnel update

Mike Hughes has offered to make a fiberglass version off one I would build specifically for pulling a mold. I would make one that could be used on a nitro version as well. I'm not sure the one I have now would clear a nitro radio box. JD

    Zipp 30" tunnel update

I had an opportunity to test the NAMBA P Limited G-30 this afternoon. On the first couple of runs, I had the prop depth too high. I ended up dropping it as low as the O.S. lower unit would go using the holes provided. The prop depth is now 1/8" above the bottom of the sponsons, and I will...

    Zipp 30" tunnel update

Nothing like gray primer to make all the small cracks, pin holes, and assorted blemishes pop out. Time for more filler and sanding. I was going to test it just prime coated, but now I'm going to go ahead and apply the color coat before running. JD

    Zipp 30" tunnel update

Finished the canopy. It is made from balsa wood. I used 1/4" plywood to make a to outline and 1/16" plywood for the base outline. I still need to apply West Systems to the blue foam. JD

    Zipp 30" tunnel update

Managed to get the sponsons attached to the center section and start on the cowling. The outside edges of the foam will be rounded and a canopy attached to the cowling. JD

    Zipp 30" tunnel update

I didn't. There is more than an adequate amount of foam in the sponsons to prevent the G 30 from sinking. When properly sealed, the decking on the center section should also provide additional flotation. JD

    Zipp 30" tunnel update

Not sure where other guys are on their build. I have the center section top sheeting attached and the sponsons and center section sealed with West Systems. I apply some WS to the sheeting and then use an old credit card to wipe off the excess epoxy. Nothing unique there, lots of guys on IW...

    Zipp 30" tunnel update

Hi Mark, Although the G 30 does employ WOF construction for the sponsons, it was not designed from any of my WOF tunnel boat plans. It is a Rod Geraghty designed tunnel. On the first page of the instruction manual, Joe does give me credit for developing WOF construction for tunnel boats...

    Zipp 30" tunnel update

After 3 days, I've managed to get the sponsons sheeted and the the center section ready for sheeting. I need to seal the wood with West Marine Epoxy before joining the sponsons to the center section. I plan to make my own "unfugly" cowling from plywood and blue insulation foam. JD

    Zipp 30" tunnel update

In order to keep the bottom center section sheeting flat on the building board, I used servo screws and strips of excess 1/8" plywood. JD

"fugly" Hadn't seen that one before. For some reason, I don't think the "f" is for "fantastic." JD

    Bandit Boats

My wife and I went up to visit Dorrien and his wife in Canada probably around the mid 1990s. I had met him previously at an event held at Harrison Lake in British Columbia. They lived out in a rural area on what had previously been a chicken farm. Dorrien laid up the fiberglass boats in one...

    Bandit Boats

The Killer boats were designed by Jack Garcia. Another great model boater and gentleman that I miss. He worked for K&B and knew how to make a 20 Stock Tunnel run fast. JD

Your English is 100% better than my Spanish. I should have taken Spanish in high school rather than Latin. The only time I have ever heard Latin spoken is at a Catholic funeral.

Is it competitive? Only way to find out is to stick an engine on it, enter it in a race, evaluate the results. FAST is not allways FIRST. JD
