We've dyno tested a lot of engines. Stock Zenoahs with the same pipe were identical in power within the precision of our dyno. The parts I've measured were identical and even squish clearances were very close. This was not true of hand built or limited production engines. We ran carefully selected engines for our GX1 gas SAW records. On stock engines the pipe made the most difference. Break in also adds power. Neither will be noticeable in heat racing. Props, setup, and driving are more important.

Sorry Mikey. Asked for original boxed engines from BH Hansen and he would not sell them to me that way. Neither would Gizmo and it sounds as though Bonzi won't either according to one post.

To those that keep referring to this thread as a performance subject/concern - it is not.

I have only ever seen them come from Zenoah in boxes. The distributors can't ship for price advertised in the factory box. They should all be able to sell you a boxed engine if you pay the extra shipping.

This thread reminds me of a friend years ago / use to boast about his engines were “hand picked” back in the day none of us could afford the motors he was getting. Hahah

Just reporting what im told. Hey I wont sell you an engine but I will sell you a couple Zenoah boxes! Maybe times are changing with suppliers but in my opinion When I ask for OE that includes packaging

I in no way am defending any of the guys that sell motors but it is possible that they my be ordering the motors in bulk from the supplier in one box and/or container to save on shipping and boxing cost that is then passed onto the customer. In other words trying to keep the engine retail price at or close to 200.00.

With that said I know for sure that this sort of thing has been done in the past but more so for records and not necessarily for heat racing. I do find it funny that any real racer would think that they need to do this to get an advantage and that any real racer would be concerned about anyone else doing it for said reason. I personally believe there is as much to gain or loose in set-up and driving skills alone and that one can over come any petty advantage someone else may think they get in buying such a motor and then racing me with it.

I’ll take the motor built with the rejected parts and spank (in heat racing) the guys running the (select) engines all day long with it. Stop worrying about these dumb nonissues and go work on building, maintaining, tuning and driving and everyone else will need a mod motor just to stay on the same lap as you.

Doug made it point.. this is NOT performance realtated. Having said this I have NO IDEA what its relating to! He need a a motor in a factory box so he can have it incase he is tore down and the motor has a scratch in it....

Thats what I got out of this..........

Good luck all!

Sure sounds like it’s preformance related when you read post #7.

He doesn’t want a motor built out of the left over parts that didn’t make the cut. My point was simple, I can beat you with that motor just like I can beat you with any other motor. Send it my way so long as when I buy a new motor, it’s NEW.

Been trying not to throw anyone or any suppliers under the bus. Just simply wanted to know where and how to purchase a sealed in the original box engine.

I must be lucky - of the 3 engines I bought his year - one had a bent crank, one had too many scuff marks for my liking and one had the top vibrate off during a heat race (obviously the top bolts were not torqued correctly when re-assembled by somebody). Didn't know about the bent crank until we were 8 hours from home at a race and 2 months after I owned it.

Yes - pretty discussed! Probably just time to hang it up.

And Chris - I also have no problem spanking racers with my boats regardless of engine.

That’s my attitude all the time. If I get beat I have more work to do. However, when I get beat I can always find fault with myself.

I don’t even pull them apart anymore. I set the needles and go run. I really don’t worry about stupid stuff anymore, I just race. The last 5 or 6 that I have bought came out of FL not in a box but sealed in the plastic, so unmolested. If it breaks witch really has rarely happen to me I fix it and move on. Some things aren’t worth worrying about!

What about all the instruction manuals? Do they make the trip with a new engine? I have only bought one stock Zenoah from a friend, in a factory box, with the instruction manual.

I use the manual as a reference all the time.
I hope someone buying their first stock engine gets manual and the engine in its original box. It has helped me.

Sometimes when you buy something new you just have certain expectations of how it should arrive....

I also like to get everything I paid for just as it left the factory. In a box, with the instructions, and any little widgets and gizmos that might come with it, like allen wrenches, fittings, gaskets, o-rings etc...

Now that we got some of the crap slinging out of the way...

I am planning to purchase 4 stock motors for some winter build projects. I have no desire to purchase stock motors that someone downgraded to the junior varsity level so they could supply someone with a "select". Seems un-ethical to me. I'll gladly take my chances with an "out of the box" motor.

So if you know, please point me towards those that do the select thing or those that do not. Pretty sure there a few guy's that would like to know.

Doug
I know gizmo sells "select" motors. I know this kuz a newbie friend of mine bought a stock motor from him and a few fins were bent and broke when he got it. He tried to return it and was told by gizmo that it was fine and no refund or exchange. Another motor dealer told me that they (gizmo) buys a crate of parts and assemble them themselves to save money and that zenoa does a crappie job crating and often have damaged parts in them. In short, no factory box. I buy my stock motors from BH Hanson and they come in a zenoa box. I dont know if he does the same thing as gizmo but I never got a damaged motor.

After 4 pages of BS finally got some useful information coming through. Thanks to Wes and the other guy's recommending Russ Stark. I don't see Russ Stark on the Zenoah Web site list of Distributors. Does he go by another name? I also will call BH Hansen back and inquire again about the packaged engines.

He tried to return it and was told by gizmo that it was fine and no refund or exchange.
That's called a "Tail Light Warranty". Once the shipper no longer can see the tail lights on the truck leaving his faciality the warranty is over. LOL!

Just pick up 2 new 29s from Russ at nats. In the factory box and pull them out of the larger box they were shipped in to him. 190 each without carb. Pull the carbs out and handed them back to Russ.

Ok so I read through this thread and I wanted to share my very new to the Hobby input.
I was told to buy a 260PUM Zenoah for my SLR Zipp-Kit Hydroplane and I found mine at Gizmomotors (2)
I do not know anything about Zenoah or 2 stroke engines to start with, I received both in Zenoah Boxes as well as Manual, exhaust and carb attaching parts, T wrench and spark plug in sealed Plastic pack. It looked factory to me...

ZEN-260 Engine
Zenoah G260PUM watercooled marine engine
Select a Carb Stock 257
Shipped
$211.00

Fired right up after I set the 257 Carb needles correctly.... After running it I couldn't be more pleased.
On a side note, Do homework and read everything
I was told once I adjust the exhaust I should focus on the Consistent Driving, and prop.
Oh yea, also it came with the regular pull starter,,,
and it is recommended to buy The easy pull starter so I don't wear out my arm....
My impression Gizmo is great, I did have one issue with a second order but Gizmo fixed it ASAP.

I bought a stock 26 zenoah end of last year and it came in the original box plug wrench manual etc the only time I didn't get it in a original box is when I order a modded motor it is probably what was mentioned in earlier posts they come in bulk nobody here knows a vendor personally to ask I believe it's hardly worth there time to take 200.00 retail motors apart or even swap parts when parts are so cheap in the first place .and I go through my motors to make sure everything is ok which should be done on any type nitro or gas. I'm sure everyone on here had two of the same motor and one runs better hell I had two identical cars in my family and one was faster then the other
