Kinda has a nice ring to it don't ya think?

For years we we're very fortunate to have the Northern Nationals in London Ontario and I think it's about time the Northern Lights club was allowed to carry on that tradition.
For anyone who has attended our race will tell you it is second to none, it's held at an incredible venue and it has all the amenities a large event needs to be successful, plus a large group of very hard working and dedicated individuals.
It's time for the Northern Nationals to return.

I have proposed this to our IMPBA Board twice now and have twice been rejected, the last time in early 2020 after we had 168 boats run at our 2019 event:

"The Northern Lights Model Boat Club is formally requesting your permission to allow our annual event to be sanctioned as “The Can-Am Nationals”.

I have CD'd this race for ten years now and watched it grow to be one of the biggest and best in our organization. We have been at our current location for seven years and have a great working relationship with our landowners. Fifty Point Conservation Area is a beautiful county park on Lake Ontario within thirty minutes of Niagara Falls and downtown Toronto, it has activities for the whole family and even a restaurant on site. The race site itself is the perfect size, weed free and very well sheltered. More importantly though we have a cohesive group of dedicated club members that take great pride in hosting a first class event for our guests.

Since the demise of the Northern Nats six years ago and the Winter Nats switching to NAMBA there are only two "Nationals" events left in our organization, the Fall Nats in Charleston and the Spring Nats in Atlanta. Both are in the southeast, sanctioning our race as a Nationals event will add a Northern location. Also, being in Canada, the event will add a uniquely "International" flavour to our organization. The event is usually held near the end of August so there is no conflict with either of the other two National events or with our Annual International or National Regattas.

Our Constitution states that amendments must benefit both the IMPBA as a whole and also the membership. We feel this distinction is appropriate for our premier event and meets this requirement completely. If granted this distinction we will fulfill the commitment with honor and dedication.

Sincerely,

Terry Keeley, IMPBA 5394CD
