As a kid growing up in San Diego, we often went to the model boat basin in Mission Bay to watch the races as inexpensive entertainment for our family. Made a feeble attempt to get into the fray about 20 years ago by buying a nitro tunnel but for a number of reasons things didn't get off to a good start and it went nowhere. Recently moved up to the Pacific Northwest and figured with ALL this water there MUST be plenty of boats/clubs around. If you're in the Portland area, not so much. I've been driving 2+ hours to attend races to see what's going on, what kind of boats I might like and whether it's something I'd like to give another shot or not. After attending several races with a couple clubs the answer is yes, and I just picked up a very nice stock gas mono this past weekend from a club member. I do fear however, after attending several races that it's kind of like Harley's (I'm a Harley guy) . . . one is never enough. One boat is a start. I've done a ton of 'research' in the past months and in all of that this forum never showed up. The seller turned me on to this great forum that seems to have a ton of information from knowledgeable folks. Downside is it seems the season up here is winding down; the upside is I'll have some off-season time to get myself ready for early season activities so I can learn some of the ropes and keep this journey moving.
