Bad call on NAMBAs part..............recommend DSM strongly? fine.
Make it manditory? Nope! All you will do is piss off more participants in a hobby that is already slowly bleeding out, and they will find something else to do!
And safety?
What about all of the not so reliable DSM systems that are sold? Futaba is far from being the only game in town!
I have personally used FLYSKY radios in r/c cars and have had reasonable success with them, but ive also had 2 cars run head on into the wall because for no reason the link was lost.........and there is so few people using FM anymore why should it make any difference. Ridiculous..........there are no guarantees no matter how this is handled. And safety is NOT improved. Again, bad call NAMBA.

Hi guys, I had raced with a lot of you for almost 30 years. 1974 to 1997 with nitro and 2007 to 2012 with gas boats. I used Futaba 3EGx radios on 27 AM until 2007 when I switched to fast system on 2.4. I am now into electric scale and fe boats.. I never had any problems with these systems. I am totally ignorant about DSM systems. I still use my 3EGX 27AM on my only gas boat. I would not like to see IMPBA or NAMBA dictate that 27 AM, 75 band and/ fast systems could not be used. To me, that would just be catering to manufacturers. Thank you, Gary

One thing about nimh batts. Mike Z is right about the lower the mah the better. One point is only AA size or larger I have seen many problems with 700mah AAA size batts dropping voltage under load
I've been running 21-2500mah size 5 cell Nimh packs in my larger stuff (90s, twins, gas and scale) for years with zero issues. Briefly tried life packs and they didn't work out well in the twin, heavy draw from big steering servo would trip low volt failsafe. Put Nimhs back in and problem went away..........

Don.. its not that they cant delver the power.. its the larger the MAH the thinner the tabs inside.. the higher MAH packs have a tick to much "Spin the chamber" to them for me.

It would be worth a try to see if LiPos have that same fails safe issue? What C did you use and did you have the pack regulated? Be good to trouble shoot what that might have been..

Don,
You had to have had a bum pack. That issue is not normal for LiFe at all.

That is not a characteristic of LiFe packs. Quite the opposite actually.

The LiFe packs deliver incredible amounts of amperage with very little voltage drop. The servo load should no way ever get any where's near triggering the failsafe setting that is for sure.

You could stick a tiny 1300 LiFe in a 25 pound 57" Superboat running at 75mph and not have a issue until it was getting low on capacity. Would not last long but would deliver what the servo's needed without dropping out on failsafe during the useful capacity of the pack. Used that example because I have expirience doing just that quite a few times. Most run 2000 to 2500 in them but almost all run LiFe composition without issues.

I have sold 10's of thousands of LiFe packs and granted very low percentage going in twin nitro riggers but people running serious high torque servos on steering and throttle in some big fast boats and never heard of even one issue where LiFe was causing brownouts or failsafe triggering.

A lot of people including myself bought a lot of the LiFe Source green packs back when LiFe just came out for hobby use and 25% of them were not right day one. They didn't last long most the time.

M12S, I tried multiple receivers, radio settings, etc. Always the same result. I now use 1 in my 1/5 scale truck and buggy and have not noticed any fail safe episodes.
interesting. I wonder if it's more of a range issue? (since boats are usually run at further distances?)

How was your antenna routed in your boat? Did it exit the radio box?

I switched to the 2.4 when the FM crystals in my Futaba radios started to go bad. Had 3 of them go bad. It was definitely the crystal. I would put in another and all was good. After the third one went out, it was all she wrote for me. I'm surprised no one else has had this happen.

Lets go racing - Doug

I personaly think run what u have as long as it is safe foremost . Being told what i can and can not run is Bad to much of that now a days . i wont race in namba in have not raced yet at all getting close to retirement hope that frees me up some even looking at a PX 10 radio Hey Grimracer how good is the speed Sencer and ur or other ppl's opinion on the new PX 10 Also if Impba a mandetes it i will go cars I am a life member . thanks just my 2 cents adam

Adam,

The GPS is really quite accurate.. "on the money".. the largest draw back in my opinion is its capture rate is only 15 per second. If you are busting out quick lap times (lets say 20sec...).. well you get it.. in the end that's just me being picky.

The -010 and -020 are for the most part the same EXCEPT the 02 has a more accurate altitude portion of the sensor.

To me.. HOME RUN.. just a heads up.. if you blow off OR JUST about blow off its going to capture that too.. so I have seen 5MPH gain as the boat comes out and the prop drives the boat off the water.. LOL

Its also nice for distance captures.. want to know REALY how far out you were.. OK.. got that.. might surprise you!

Be well and this is just a proverbial bump in the road.. we had a much larger issue when we went to the gold stickers back in 91.. LOL (we, as an "organization" had ZERO SAY SO in that one)

Thank you for the question!

Thank U GrimRacer I called my local hobby shop yesterday and ordered a px 10 and a gps senser . he has not even heard of the PX 10 LOL could of just ordered it my self buy wanted to help keep hobby shop going to by sending in orders .

Why are we going to exclude racers when we have hardly have any left? This is not a FAA or government ban currently? I can't fathom these organizations doing this... I had penciled in going back to Brandon, FL for a 3rd time in January but I guess that's no longer due to my equipment being banned. I surely hope IMPBA doesn't follow suit.... Mike we witnessed how many boats lose radio and or end up on bank this weekend using 2.4? Atleast 4 that I counted and I'm sure it wasn't TX issues just like when a 75 guys loses his boat.... it almost always battery, switch, or RX.... I know it might not seem like a big deal to only lose 5-10 stubborn boaters at races but IT is!!!! Those 5-10 we lose you are losing those generations that follow in their familes foot steps. Racing of any form has and always will be a generational thing in a big way!! We are beating an already almost dead hobby into the dirt!!! There is no need for this right now, I have raced FM TX my whole life (30 years) and stil do to this day, and as life and lipo battery's have come about i have had literally 0 issues the past 4-5 seasons since I switched to those....
