A freak deal!

Ran my new JAE .21 at the Internats and after a couple of good heats with the boat,it lifted off of a roller in the back straight and snapped the hollow carbon booms.....never hit a thing! I'll go with solid tubes next! I really like how the boat runs......i think it will be a goodin'!!

The booms breaking easy isn’t a bad thing. Solid booms will put more stress on the tub and sponsons. Not easily replaced.
The booms are cheap and easy to replace and are sufficient under normal driving conditions. Food for thought.

VERY good point Danny! I have to admit that when i got the boat back and looked it over, the first thing i looked at was the tub to see if there was any damage to it or the copper tubes that the booms slide through and everything was good! Thanks!

I use the hollow booms But id make a wood dowel to go thru tub area and stick out and inch or so to protect the tub

Bill, If your tubes are the pultruded carbon you might consider a wrapped carbon hollow tube before going to solid carbon. A little more robust and ridged than what you have but not as much as the solid. If you use hollow, I always use a solid fiberglass rod inserted in the I.D., I have it extend about 1/2” outside the tub, per Mr. Marty’s recommendation.

I have done the wood dowel in the pultruded booms and it works good or aluminum .935 wall tube.

I use the carbon tube with the dowel on the inside. I set it to break past the tub sides in the middle of the tube....everything can't be bullet proof...something has to fail.
