After 13 years or so I’m getting back to my 1:8 scale U-3. Just putting the finishing touches on the Allison from scale-3D.com. I had to do some adjustments to the Turbos to make the space between them wide enough to go around the CMB 67. In the background you’ll see a dummy motor I did with wood and copper tubing and fittings. Not bad looking at all but weighs close to a pound! The 3D printed version is 7 ounces now and likely will be less when I trim a lot of the bottom of the block to get it sitting right around the CMB. I got close to paint in 2008 but Im going back and making some changes and I’ll post pics as I progress.

Very cool!! I admire people who are willing to take the extra time it takes to pull off such attention to detail... both engines look great, but I can understand the weight concern.

Any plans to add wires and hoses ? Or just going to call it good to go ?
Thanks Frank! Yeah wires and hoses had occurred to me. For now I need to get it situated in the boat. My engine well cover is being done in G10 material either in one or two pieces. The motor will be incorporated into that, either with screws or rare earth magnets. I haven’t decided if I’m going to do one big piece or two. The old one was one piece made out of wood that attached at the transom and went to the cockpit. But I may work out some additional details down the road, you never know…

Some trimming and fitting done today. Cut a piece of G10 to size and trimmed the motor block down. It doesn’t look bad just sitting where it is but I’d prefer it sit a little lower which will involve rigging something underneath the G10 and mounting through instead of on top.

Looks great 👍...sorry new to hydro so as for the front canard are you able to attach it in any way you choose to push air under the boat or vise versa?

There’s a canard that attaches up by the tips of the sponsons and I’m just going to use rubber well nuts through a hole drilled in the fiberglass rear mounting screws. The front ones are brass inserts. I will use aluminum angle with a slot cut on the back mounts to allow for it to be adjusted up or down.

I like the setup of that. I wish my proboat had a little more thought put into it before they called it good 🤦‍♂️
I’m sure you can get that boat running respectably if you follow some of the suggestions in the thread. They really didn’t do anyone any favors by not allowing an adjustable strut and the turn fin 🙄. You just have to do some mods. I know you didn’t want to, I get it. You’ve got a strong motor there I think though. If you want a good running hydro you can’t go wrong with a Backlash. They pop up here occasionally with or without motor and even more often on Jim’s RC Boat Dock. I bought the kit and it was my first wooden RC boat build in over 20 years. Took my time and enjoyed the build. Took a few times out at the lake but it’s set now. Fast and handles perfect. Your motor would make one scream I think.

Yea I know but some how my wife got attached to it and won't let me modify it now 🤦‍♂️ ... trust me I didn't neglect the advise I just kinda let the boat hang out for now until my wife gets over it lol
