got to love those clever japanese engineers. GP used to be 2 stroke. 125, 250 and 500cc. ( TZ was the race bikes) RD / RZ were the road registered variants.) One cylinder, two cylinders or 4 cylinders connected to 1 crank. Light the fuse and hang on for dear life...

The latest models of the TZ 500’s made so much power that Kenny Roberts all but refused to race them. Ever see one of those beast power slide under full throttle on the banking & Daytona with Kenny on it?

They also built a TZ750 that was banned after only one flat track race for too much power.

If you scared Kenny, you have done something !!

Thanks,

Ronnie King

Great link here . He was one of my heroes for sure !Kenny Roberts - Wikipedia
I was there in 1978 and watched in awe as he lapped the entire field to win ! TZ - 750's howling 4 wide on the banks of Daytona is the highlight of my life as a motorcycle enthusiast !

Bill , you have lost your mind . You need to sell me that UMX Beast . What the hell is with all the rockets ? Build a.bigger shop !! My old 67 Roadrunner looking good . Stick it in lane 1 and let it eat ! .

Alright Go Fast - Dont give Windex any grief over the Rockets , They are a necessary evil -

The RZ-500 was a consumer version of the Yamaha 500 GP bikes. Same basic engine. From what I have read they are way over built. You can pump the street engines way up in horse power and they will hold up. The engine on this bike was like the race engine. It has two cranks. It is basically two separate engines. You have a primary gear on the end of each crank that both connect to gear on the back of the clutch basket. The lower engine has the pipes coming out the bottom you can see in the pic. The upper engine has the pipes come out, the back and under the seat. That is why you see the bulge under the side covers. On hot summer days when ridding you would have to stand up on the pegs every so often and let you rear end cool off! Those after market Jolly Moto pipes had no heat shields on them and they would cook your back side. The transmission was also like a race bike. It was a cassette. You could undo the left side of the transmission cover and pull out all the gear shafts without pulling the engine from the frame.
I have had a lot of fast bikes over the years but this was the best. It might not of been the fastest, but it was the personality of the bike. That BIG two stroke power band. ( When it hit about 6000RPM you better be holding on tight), and the smell of a two stroke and the sound. This bike sounds like a swarm of angry bee's.

A friend had one down here in Florida and he let Chuck Quenzler ride it in a race where it ended up crashed and never went back together...... **** shame !

Few pics of the shop at work and a few of home . Home is basically 3 rooms in a row based off of a single car garage . Work is 4800 ft but only some areas for plane and boat stuff . Not sure where I'm going to put everything when I move out next May . I am going to build another shop but it will be 1-1/2 hours away .
