Hey guys,
Got my Fiancé’s little brother interested in these headaches now. Lol
He’s 6, so do not need anything fast or excessively expensive. Messed with the nitros forever, what would be a good starter electric that is reliable? Been looking at the proboat Miss Geico 17”, thought something like the sonicwake or stealthwake would be good options too? Don’t mind building something so what hulls would you guys recommend that I could build even?

thanks!

A DF26 with a budget system makes a great entry point that can be upgraded over time. As Zach pointed out you can run a 4 cell boat with 2 cells and 3 cells before jumping to 4 cells.

Also the little reef racers and other AQ boats make good entry level boats.

Brandon....check out MLtoys....they have a tunnel hull that runs on 3cells....fast...and self righting... RTR and right at the $100 price point....many reviews on the boat...advertised speed is 28mph...oh...and its brushless

IMO getting something that is self-righting would be a good idea until he learns some driving technique.

Does anybody have any experience with ML Boatworks hydros I just purchased one and I'm having problems with the sponsons the Skins don't want 2 cooperate and I'm kind of stuck I'll be the new guy on the Block needing some help thanks Bob Pugh

So are the skins go over the shears and supports ,or do they all come together and glue up that way.?

I would go with the Pro Boat SonicWake. A self righting boat wold be a good starter boat . I picked up a Miss Gieco 17 it would also be a good starter boat . It's on the slow side but for a 6yr old it would be great . Only issue is its not self righting so if it rolls in a turn you'll need a way to retrieve it.

Brandon....Volantex also has a RTR with a price point that wont break the wallet....at 6y.o. the attention span and want list is allover for a young man....just be careful....you may end up with a shelf boat

I agree with the ml toys. So with that this tunnel is where beginners should start with a new beginners class. It has everything they need. Good speed, looks & a price dad would be willing to pay for. A hundred dollars some expireanced boaters can run in class as well with only thing you can adjust would be the prop. Not replace but just tweak. Everyone runs the out of box boat. If there were atleast 2 to 3 boaters in each club that would be willing to buy the tunnel or mono to have at a moment's notice to be able to run a class in case that beginner wants to race the class would have enough before the beginner wanted to race. It's not about speed. It's about running next to another racer having fun & growing the hobby. When they have that race where 3 boats are coming across the finish line next to them, that's the excitement that will bring them back. We just have to place it on the flyer so the beginner sees its there & waiting for them. So my question to all clubs, are you willing to make the move for the beginners. One other thing. The prop is on a strut & the rudder is behind doing all the steering with the outboard cowling on top. Thanks for reading
